April Ross
April Ross is one of only a few female beach volleyball athletes to capture medals at more than one Olympics. In Tokyo in the coming days she will attempt to win her third gold medal with fellow first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross also hopes to get her very first Olympic medal. And at the age of 39, it could be her last opportunity to achieve it. She remains optimistic that she'll be successful in achieving top honours. Ross on NBC Boston, said that when the team performs very well, or even at all, they could win a gold. This is also an issue of luck. Ross was born in California in Costa Mesa, California in 1982. She grew up in Costa Mesa along with her parents and younger sister. Ross competed in many sports during her time at Newport Harbor High School. In her time as a college athlete she was also a participant in indoor volleyball and track. In her final game she stood out. According to her biography, she was an outside blocker as well as a middle volleyball player during her high-school career. She was awarded the Gatorade National Circle of Champions player of the Year in 1999 for her achievements. In 2000, the Orange County Athlete of the Month award was also won by her in volleyball. Ross and Klineman started their relationship in 2017 However, Ross had been a beach-scene celebrity for a long time prior to. In fact, she won numerous major events using two partners, among them a volleyball icon. Jennifer Kessy coached her from 2007 through 2013. Together with Kessy Ross, she won the World Championship in 2009 while competing internationally. They took home a Silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) and Misty Maytreanor won gold, ahead of them. Ross Jennings took over for May-Treanor after she had retired. In 2016, the duo took bronze at the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Ross started her college professional career playing for the Trojans of USC after graduation from high school. It was a long time before Ross went to the sand and turned pro. This was an impressive performance for Ross during her time at the university. In 2000, she was voted Pac-10 Freshman as well as NCAA Freshman Of The Year, and was also an All-American. The team also saw her help in helping the Trojans reach into the Final Four. Her personal tragedy was a crushing loss in her sophomore year however she was able to return her place as an All-American. In her last two seasons with the Trojans team the team was led to victories by winning consecutive national championships. As an individual, she established herself as an all-time great by winning the 2003-04 Honda Sports Award as the highest ranked female volleyball player. Ross was an international relations student at USC. Unfortunately, Ross mother Margie was not able to witness Ross rise to the very top of beach volleyball superstardom. Ross lost the breast cancer that she battled in the year 2001. Ross was then a sophomore. As a result, Ross continues to be close to her deceased parent. In addition, Margie continues to be an motivation for her at the beach and in life.
