Selena Quintanilla Perez (Spanish pronunciation"se'lenakinta'nija'peres" 16th, 1971 - March 31st, 1995) Also known as Selena is a famous American Tejano singer. The "Queen Tejano music", her contribution to fashion and music have made her one of the most well-known entertainers from Mexico ever. Billboard magazine placed her at third in the year 2020, on their "Greatest Latino Artists of All Time", which was based on Latin music and Latin albums. For her choice of clothing, media outlets called her the Tejano Madonna. She is also regarded as one of the most popular Latin performers of all time and is credited for catapulting the Tejano genre into the mainstream market.The youngest member of the Quintanilla family, she debuted in the music industry as part of the group Selena y Los Dinos, with her two elder siblings A.B. Quintanilla and Suzette Quintanilla. In the 80s, she was frequently accused of being a snob and was denied bookings at venues across Texas because she performed Tejano music--a male-dominated music genre. But her popularity increased as she was awarded the Tejano Music Award for Female Vocalist of the Year in 1987. She won nine times in succession. She signed with EMI Latin in 1989 and made her debut album with her own name the following year. In the meantime, her brother became her primary music producer and songwriter.Selena has released Entre a Mi Mundo (1992) and reached number one on the US Billboard Regional Mexican Albums chart for eight months in a row. It was described by music critics as being the "breakthrough" album of her musical career. One of the singles, "Como la Flor" was a huge hit and was her most-loved tune. Live! Live! In 1994 she came out with Amor Prohibido, which became one of the best-selling Latin albums in the United States. In the eyes of critics, it was responsible as the catalyst for Tejano music's very first commercial phase. It became one of Latin music's most well-known subgenres.
